Metasequoia glyptostroboides Common Name: Dawn Redwood Size: 60'h x 25'w Sun: sun-part shade H20: occ.H2O/moist A 'fossil native', the Dawn Redwood once grew in abundance throughout North America millions of years ago. Its current range in the wild is limited to a remote area of China. Nonetheless it thrives in modern California's climate, and is a beautiful tree, with a reddish, gnarled trunk and soft apple green foliage that turns a cinnamon brown before falling in autumn. Provide sun or light shade, and water occasionally in summer.
