Nevin's Barberry forms a dense mound of prickly grey foliage. Bright yellow flowers produced at branch tips from March to May are followed by lovely red berries, a good bird attractor. It makes an excellent barrier planting. A native of coastal sage scrub and chaparral in Los Angeles County where it is rare and endangered.
