Description:
Almost evergreen, unusually tolerant of direct seashore conditions or highly alkaline desert soils. Flowers and seeds attract birds. Fire resistant. Native to California coast south of San Francisco inland to Riverside county. Grows 5-7' high can be hedge sheared. plant 4-6' apart for solid cover. Seeds, leaves and young shoots are edible, however, it can absorb selenium if it is present in the soil, so caution is advised. Ashes of this plant have been used as a substitute for baking powder.
